Basal cell may appear as a pearly or
flesh-colored oval bump with a rolled border which may turn
into a bleeding ulcer.
Squamous cell may appear as a firm, reddish, wartlike bump
that slowly grows or as a flat spot that becomes a bleeding
sore that wont heal.
Melanoma, the most dangerous type, may appear as a change in
an existing mole. It may also be a small, dark,multicolored
spot with irregular borders. It can be elevated or flat and
bleed forming a scab. It may also appear as a cluster of shiny,
firm, dark bumps.
Excessive exposure to sum is the main cause of skin cancer.
Sunlight contain UV rays that can alter the genetic makeup in
skin cells. Sunlamps, tanning booths and xrays also emit UV
rays.
The standard treatment by the medical profession is to
remove small tumors with electric current, frozen with liquid
nitrogen or killed with low-dose radiation. Larger ones they
like to cut out.
Skin experts know that the mineral zinc and antioxidants
vitamin A, C and E can help repair damaged body tissue and
promote healthy skin.
The best method is prevention. Stay out of the sun from late
morning thru ealy afternoon. If you are out, wear a hat, long
sleeves, pants and sunglasses that block UV rays. Use a
sunscreen with a 15 or higher protection. Take a B-Complex
vitamin which contains a compound called PABA. PABA is the
active ingredient in many sunscreens.
